  1. Solid product - plus a tech tip
We have tried a few 'early computer learning toys' and found them wanting. This is the first one I have seen that is properly interactive, bug free, and well built. My kid is only 2, so he is officially too young. But frankly, he has mastered the paint part of it already; he is quickly learning...
  2. Great for kids under 3 too!
I bought this when it was first released for my 2 1/2 year old. I hooked it up to my old Dell with Windows XP (this is not Mac compatible - and I converted to iMac in Dec). I bought the additional Dora & Diego software, and the Clifford software will be installed on her 3rd birthday in 10 days....

This Handbook provides a comprehensive and international representation of state-of-the art research, theory, and practice related to principal areas in which significant developments are occurring in the study of literacy and technology. It offers a glimpse of the commonalities faced by literacy educators around the world, together with specific challenges raised by unique circumstances.Volume I of this Handbook endeavored to lay essential groundwork for the study of literacy and technology; it retains an explanatory value that will not weaken over time. Volume II differs considerably in conception. It assumes for the most part a higher level of expertise on the part of readers, and the projects and applications described by the contributors are characterized by greater sophistication. The scope of technology use is broader, and the challenges that have emerged are in sharper focus. A powerful feature of this volume is the addition of commentaries...

Idaho won't compete for preschool money

BOISE — Idaho has decided it will not apply for a multi-million dollar education grant from the federal government aimed at increasing access to early learning programs for low-income and disadvantaged children.

States had a Wednesday deadline to apply for the $500 million federal grant competition to improve preschool education programs during the latest round of the U.S. Department of Education's "Race to the Top" contest.

The state Department of Education confirmed that Idaho, which could have sought up to $50 million, decided to skip the process.

The agency led by public schools chief Tom Luna recommended last month that Idaho abandon efforts to compete for the money, citing concerns about the state expanding its current public education system with one-time funding.

"Nothing has changed," said department spokeswoman Melissa McGrath. "Our biggest concern is still the one-time money and what happens after it goes away.

Laptops and Computers for Young Children Under 5: Educational ...

Young children love to copy mum, dad and older siblings; and forbidden objects such as telephones, computers and other electronic equipment are usually fascinating for toddlers.

There are a wide range of electronic educational toys which look like real computers but are designed for young children, in addition, they are very affordable.

A kid's toy computer can be a good prop for a game of make believe in which children imitate the typical activities which they see around the home and on TV. The toys may also contain built-in educational games for the children to enjoy. Toys for pre-school children will be brightly coloured with big knobs and buttons. They should also be sturdy enough to withstand children, to be knocked and dropped.

Toy Computers for Toddlers Aged 1 or 2

Toy computers for the very youngest of children usually do not look much like an adult’s laptop, Baby’s First Laptop being an exception. They are similar to the many battery powered, colourful toys for this age group with pictures, bright colours, big buttons, lights and noises.
