The major trend in the design of synth is fire up the Wayback Machine and accurately recreate the sounds of the '70s and '80s like analog synths, then roll the results in one does-it-all keyboard. Incorporate a modern twist, such as USB and MIDI ports, microphone preamps and digital audio outputs and you have a package ready to serve any Pro Tools or GarageBand jockey.
The Venom is all that and it does for about $ 500.Stand-alone synths or software-and-controller combos usually cost less. So, given the versatility, the venom is relatively affordable - especially given the quality of the sounds inside.
Rather than relying on numerical modeling synth, M-Audio used samples crude instruments to give the original Venom his voice. Taiho Yamada, the designer of the venom, dozens of specimens from his collection wheel synth vast (and called in some favors from friends) to collect samples.These samples of vintage synths - Moog, Arps, Oberheim, Roland and the lot - are the foundation of the sound palette of the venom. Yamada team also sampled some weird old material. A Harvestman Zorlon Cannon, which employs the same type of sound generator used in the Atari 2600, was used to make some chiptune flavors. An old test tube led oscillator Hewlett-Packard gave a pure sine wave and glassy. A circuit-bent Roland TR-808 provided some crisp drums.
