stand is cheap!
The drum sounds OK but the stand is made of flimsy plastic and was broken in no time. We are now looling for a new stand! I am sure one could find a drum that sounds just as good or better than this one with a strong metal stand that will last!

Normally, a visitor approaches this humble storefront at 2236 Avenue of the Atlantic would be welcomed by the evocative sounds of ringing one of the Caribbean island of Trinidad's most famous exports, the steel drum. But today, the term of the brushes, drills and sanders disc: Bishop George Xavier and his daughter Jillian is at work, the renovation of the Long Beach school steel drum and the preparation of its mid- August reopening. Until then, the musical instrument, traditionally fashioned from oil 55 gallons, had been associated with the "hooligans of the village," says Bishop Xavier. In his youth, favorite music bishop of Xavier was the calypso, which is just one of the percussion-based musical styles to have originated in his homeland. Other styles include soca, chutney tamboo bamboo. Each of these contains Africa's Indian, Eastern and Far Eastern cultures that have passed through and reflect the unique intercultural mixture to the Caribbean islands. Xavier Bishop is proud to pass on this musical heritage of his students....

Since it first started, proceeds from the Music Fest have been donated. “We’ve had a good tradition of ‘passing the hat’ during the concert and putting the proceeds to good use. The first year, all proceeds were put into a college fund for Wade’s young children. Last year, proceeds were used to place a plaque in memory of him. And this year, the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation will gift the proceeds from the Music Fest to the North Dakota 2011 Flood Relief Fund.”
