Father of six special-needs kids receives almost $200K

Cutting to a commercial break about 7:30 a.m., Weiss told listeners to stay tuned to find out what exactly the Stark family would be receiving.

“If it’s more than two sentences,” Stark said on the air, “it’s too much.”

Weiss laughed.

“We’re gonna be here for a while,” he said.

The story began in earnest almost 20 years ago, when Will and wife Cheryl began adopting special-needs children. Four of those children (Melody, 19, Natalie, 18, Johnathon, 17, Amber, 17) now attend Peachtree Ridge High School, where they completed their first day of the new school year after dropping by “The Bert Show” Monday. Katie and Jacob, both 12, go to school at Jackson Elementary and Hull Middle, respectively.

Their illnesses include nonverbal mental retardation, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

The family got on Weiss’ radar when they were chosen in 2009 for Bert’s Big Adventure, an annual trip taking ill or disabled children and their families to Disney World. They reemerged three weeks ago Monday, when Cheryl Stark had a stroke.

. It was so cool to be able to sing with this.

The microphone comes with 2 pre-loaded songs, but you can download an app on your computer and add your own music to it. We had no idea what the songs were that were loaded, so I went to work on getting my own music. It took a few times to download and then a few more times getting the music transferred. This could have been operator error, though. It’s still easy enough to do though, the microphone comes with a USB cable and the app is free.

We got the songs downloaded and the kids took over singing right away!

It’s really cool how it adds chorus and auto harmony. I would love to get another one so the kids won’t fight about it. Paper Jamz has other instruments too, like the guitar or drums.

The only thing I did not like about this is that it only allows 3 songs. It is not hard to change them, but I would have preferred more. Other than that I love this and so do my kids!! Great gift for birthdays!...
