Nicole Brodeur Acclaimed composer visits hospital, gets more than expected

Wrote the songs for "Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin" — the musical opening this week at the 5th Avenue Theatre — but they sure know the songs.

And yet, for all the logistics surrounding Menken's visit, some things weren't to be planned, like when patient Shannon Wallace sat down at the piano to play for a bit, unknowingly forcing the eight-time Oscar winner to cool his heels on a couch.

Menken listened intently as Wallace, 16, her IV drip beside her, played a swirling melody that she had composed herself.

"Reminds me of Joni Mitchell," Menken told Wallace when she finished. "Sounds like 'Blue.' "

Then Menken sat down to play some things he had composed.

"I wrote a lot of the those Disney things," Menken said casually.

Wallace, who has cystic fibrosis and has been at the hospital for eight days, was stunned.

"He's a legend," she said. "I think it's cool that he's here and that he would devote his time.

My piano students are aged five to eleven. They are all unique and very enjoyable to teach. However, if I do not keep things fun while they are learning, I might as well talk to a wall. As a piano teacher for children, I hope these tips on how I keep my students interested in learning to play piano will help parents keep the music playing once their child leaves my room teaching!

When a child begins piano lessons, establish "no-stress and learn while having fun" playing right now: When I go to a new student, that's what I say I do not cry or not to be angry. If you go to the bathroom please do not be afraid to ask. If there is one lesson that you do not have much time to "play" during the week, not worry, we will learn together....

Businessman Daniel Del Piano Launches Kingdom Kids Club To ...

The Kingdom Kids Club is a unique program where children are sponsored to read the Bible for a full year. They receive Kingdom Points as rewards which can then be exchanged for various prizes. At the end of every 12 months of Bible reading, children will also receive a Diploma. A buddy referral program is targeted at generating an interest among the friends of children already in the program. Children can earn further Kingdom Points by referring a friend. "As parents and adults, we are commanded by God to bring our children up according to His word. However, most children do not spend daily time in God's word. With that in mind, the Kingdom Kids Club ministry's goal is to bring God's word to children. These children will have a contract with God," said Daniel Del Piano, founder of the Kingdom Kids Club.
