Arsenic Issue
I have not bought this toy yet, but am interested in one of the other Melissa & Doug bead mazes. I called them because of the review referring to arsenic. They assured me there isn't any, and they have safety certificates. Just wanted to inform everyone. -

I bought this toy originally thinking I would leave it at out-of-town grandma's. However, it was small enough that I decided to bring it home. It has suction cups on the bottom, which allow you to use it on a high chair or other place. My 8 month old likes to spin the pieces and is growing...

I bought this toy originally thinking I would leave it at out-of-town grandma’s. However, it was small enough that I decided to bring it home. It has suction cups on the bottom, which allow you to use it on a high chair or other place. My 8 month old likes to spin the pieces and is growing more interested in moving them around. Very well made. Would highly recommend. Only reason it’s 4 stars instead of 5 is b/c it’s a liked toy, but not a loved toy.

If you are looking for a toy that can help your child learn about shapes, colors, and sizes and be able to differentiate all of them, then the toy for you is the Melissa and Doug Deluxe First Bead Maze .
This toy has a suction cup base, allowing for stability when playing on the floor. It consists of brightly colored beads within a maze that can be slid along colorful wire pathways. The Melissa and Dough Deluxe First Bead Maze can help with color differentiation and recognition, hand-eye coordination and tactile motor development during play. In addition, guiding the beads through the maze can help your child develop their concentration skills.
The toy measures 7.75 inches by 7 inches by 3.75 inches and is a lightweight toy. The pieces of the toy are smooth, and it has no sharp edges that may result in injury. The toy is made out of durable wood, and able to sustain the rigors and stress of toddler play.
There is one thing to note about the Melissa and Doug Deluxe First Bead Maze. In one review by healthystuff.org, the toy was discovered to contain traces of arsenic in the red wire attachment prior to January 2009. However, there have been several tests done that counteract this review, and to improve the quality of the toy. We have even spoken with a representative at the Melissa and Doug Company about the arsenic issue, and they have confirmed that there is no arsenic or any other harmful chemical present in the toy. Unfortunately, one inaccurate review has sullied the toy’s reputation unnecessarily.
