5 ways to celebrate Halloween

Whether you like being scared by ghosts, wearing a mask or just enjoying taking the kids out for candy, you'll find something to do on our list of five types of activities that can either scare you or entertain you this weekend. When you are taking advantage of the holiday happenings, don't forget to check the weather and to be mindful of your safety while taking part in any spooky activities!

1. Learning in the Library

Witches, zombies and all Halloween costumes will be welcome in the auditorium of the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave., for the Scary Science Halloween Party. If you want to hear spooky stories or get candy by trick or treating in the Library, show up at 7 p.m. Friday for this free activity. Call 417-882-0714 to register; registration started Monday.

2. Halloween for Adults

If you are looking for a party without the kids that also is a benefit, how about attending Fright Night on Friday at the Firehouse? There will be music, catering and a Halloween costume contest 8 p.m.-midnight.

Conner's A-maize-ing Acres - smart USA insider

Good evening everyone. I wanted to pass on some very good information to you. I will be posting one of these on here after I send out this letter. THe other two I will be waiting to receive the rest of the information. First, I hope everyone is ready to go to the event on the 29th of this month at the corn maze. This event was talked about at the last meeting. It is at Conner's A-maize-ing Acres, in Hilliard Fl. This event is on one of their fun days and it is The Wizard of Oz theme. They have a costume contest for those who want to participate. It will be from 4 to 6. We are going to meet in Baldwin at 3PM, location to be announced once we go and see what is there right off of I-10. I will be posting their location, however, it is recommended by them that if you do not want to be lost before you get to the maze, don't use your GPS to find them. As for costs, if you are military or prior military retired with an ID, you get in free. Ages 5-64 pay $12 for the farm only, or $13 for the maze and the farm. Ages 65 and up pay $10 for the farm only, or $11 for the maze and the farm. Cash, credit cards and debit cards are accepted, however, debit and credit cards will be charged $1 per transaction. Best to bring cash. If we can make reservations for 20 paying people, there is a $2 discount. Dorothy and other characters will be giving out treats in the maze. There is the Sassy Snack Shack on site to eat, for those that get hungry. We are still waiting to hear from the castle people as a possible addition to the maze event....
