best travel toy there is!
I bought this for an international flight - my son was 18 months and into vehicles of all types. I wanted something that would hold his attention but didn't have a bunch of loose parts I'd have to pick up off the floor. This was perfect. I actually keep it in reserve, as a special "bribe" toy... -
Fun "hands on" maze!
This wooden maze puzzle is a good exercise in problem solving. The child has to figure out how to move various vehicles out of the path of other vehicles in order to take each car, truck, ambulance, etc. to its home. My school kids enjoy using this puzzle because it is different from the puzzles...

"Created by an art director at the Puzzles.COM website, these phenomenal original brainbusters-more than 200 of them-will stimulate your potential for thinking outside the box. Arranged from easiest to hardest, they're especially devised for mind-expanding visual solving. And all it takes to crack their mysteries are a pencil, an eraser, patience, and, of course, boundless imagination! Arrange a hinged chain of 11 squares of different sizes into one large square-without overlapping them. Play two-hole billiards on the page, sending two balls into their respective pockets in just two strokes. Figure out how eight patterned cars fit into a checkered parking lot so their colors match the background exactly. Floor plans, tangrams, matchstick puzzles: the variety is amazing."

EDITOR'S PICKS: Three Best Bets in Entertainment
Almost a hundred Halloween parties, mazes and haunted houses -- from happily kid-friendly to downright ghoulish -- are competing for your attention around south-central Idaho this weekend, and we rounded up the details.
1) Among the Corn: One of the most versatile of your Halloween choices is the College of Southern Idaho's corn maze -- where a pleasant family outing early in the evening turns into a fright night after 8 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. Go Saturday for a grape-stomping competition, or Sunday for free family photos at the maze entrance.
2) Cowboy Tunes: Magic Valley loves its classic western music, so Riders in the Sky's performance Thursday in Twin Falls should draw a hearty crowd. You're not one of those folks who can sing along with "Tumbling Tumbleweeds"? Perhaps you'll recognize "Woody's Round-Up," the band's "Toy Story 2" tune.
3) Magical Coach: The godmother in this "Cinderella" might be a little sassier than you expect. Magic Valley Little Theatre is putting the Rodgers and Hammerstein version on stage through Sunday, and the show's director promises "a lot more fluff and fun" than Disney's version. I hope the cast's live cat gets a nice tuna snack after the curtain drops.

I bought this for an international flight - my son was 18 months and into vehicles of all types. I wanted something that would hold his attention but didn't have a bunch of loose parts I'd have to pick up off the floor. This was perfect. I actually keep it in reserve, as a special "bribe" toy he doesn't get to play with every day. It's really got staying power, too. It came out at our halloween party this weekend, and my friend's six year old played with it for 20 minutes, making up elaborate stories for why the vehicles were going to each of the destinations. I would buy this again, but it's so durable I am pretty sure I'll never have to. From Melissa & Doug, the Fresh Start line of wooden puzzles will intrigue any child with adorable artwork and easy-to-grasp pieces. Unique features like pieces that slide along slotted tracks (so you'll never lose puzzle pieces!...
