A-Haunting We Will Go ...
Trapped in the haunted mansion of the mad toymaker, Stauf, with no memory of your past, you must seek out your past ... your purpose ... the fate of the six murdered guests, long ago ... and the seventh guest. To begin with, this is *not* an action title. With this game, you can give your... -
Great when it was released, but now...
When The 7th Guest was first released in 1993, it was pretty much just a CD-ROM showcase: "Look what I can do." Further technological advancements, though, haven't proven kind to The 7th Guest, but the game remains as good now as it ever was. It's mostly an series of puzzles and...
Over the past two decades, much attention has been given to the new media culture of video games, due to their unique features and pervasive nature among young people. This book critically examines the role of video games in education, arguing that they encourage strategic thinking, planning, communicating, negotiation skills, multi-tasking and group decision-making. It is also observed that video games promote higher levels of attention and concentration among players. The book contains multiple perspectives and presents thought-provoking ideas, innovative approaches, systemic exploration, exemplary and promising efforts, and future-oriented scenarios. The book draws together distinguished researchers, educational and curriculum planners, game creators, educational and social psychologists, and instructional designers to explore how video games can transform the future of education.
Celebrating harvest, fall
A number of local restaurants, along with Petaluma Poultry and Lagunitas Brewing, will offer a meal, available for $15. Beer and wine will be available for $5.
The party is part of Aqus Community Crawl Petaluma, a community gathering — this year's theme is animal prints, so shake off your zebra-print jacket and cheetah-print pants — that moves from one venue to a another throughout the evening and features unique entertainment.
The Crawl kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Bounty fete.
New to the Crawl this year is “24 Hour Theater,” which is not a play that lasts a full day and night, so don't worry. Rather, it involves writing, rehearsing and performing of a new play within that time frame. Three scenes will be presented at three different venues.

Fall Festival Round-Up: There are so many harvest festivals taking place throughout the North Bay that it can be hard to keep track of them all or decide which to hit and which to miss. Here are a few recommended picks for this weekend.
Pat's Retro Video Game Review – The 7th Guest – This game still ...
As the technology got better, game developers were given more freedom to add more creative details into graphics and sound. Games went from mostly 2-d objects moving from side to side on the screen to fully rendered 3-d objects moving all over the place in a 3-d environment. Also around this time, lighting effects were becoming a big part of video games. Shadows and reflections of characters and other game objects were beginning to show up in games and would eventually become one of those small details that gamers would take into account when making that all important game decision, “Are the graphics good?”. For me, one game stood out from all others and showcased just what was possible in the video game world with advancing technology. That game is “The 7th Guest”.

The 7th Guest and Henry Stauf Return
Never being a fan of scary games, books, movies, television shows, etc., I was somehow still compelled by the box to play the game (score one for marketing) and made the mistake of doing so alone, at
night, in an empty house. The extended opening sequence gives players the background story on the sick and twisted Henry Stauf, a ne'er-do-well turned murderer turned rich toymaker. Featuring real actors hamming it up and drawn backgrounds, the opening is both intriguing and vaguely disturbing. Once it ends, you find yourself in the mansion of Stauf years after a fateful, and deadly, party. You are not so much an actual person as an entity without form known simply as Ego. You travel through the house often, but not always, as a person would, but without a defined body.
Your job is to go from room to room, solving a wide array of puzzles and piecing together what happened that fateful night. These puzzles include things like moving pieces on a chessboard, solving word puzzles, and going through a maze or two. As you enter new rooms and solve the puzzles, you are rewarded with the unlocking of new locations to visit and more ghostly visions of what happened. It is played somewhat for laughs and yet, at times, quite spooky.
