OR budget panel suggests School District look for more efficiencies in budget

DURHAM — Advisory Budget Committee members suggest the Oyster River Cooperative School District should look for more efficiencies within its proposed working budget, including purchasing smaller buses, consolidating bus routes and asking parents to purchase technology for students.

At a Wednesday night budget workshop session, School Board members discussed the working budget for the 2012-2013 school year. It proposes a $209,846 increase over last year's budget. ABC members work to help the School Board identify areas of improvement during these workshop sessions.

As discussions turned to transportation costs, ABC members said they hope the district can find more efficient and financially responsible ways to spend the district's money. Suggestions included finding more efficient route planning and consolidating routes multiple buses might travel on the way to schools.
