EAST ALTON - The motto, "out with the old and in with the new," fits perfectly with Toddle Towne East Alton Learning Center's new location.
For the past 35 years, the East Alton learning center had been in business at 229 Whitelaw Ave. But President Peggy Funkhouser thought it might be a good time for a change of scenery for the staff and children. For about three weeks, they have been at their new location at the old Lincoln School, located at 163 North Shamrock Ave. in East Alton.
"It's a really bright and cheerful place to be," Funkhouser said about the new location.
Not only did the Toddle Towne Learning Center need a change of scenery, but it also needed to expand. At the old location, there was no more room for any type of expansion. It was built in the 1920s to 1930s and was very small.
Funkhouser said the old Lincoln School had been completely empty for the past few years. Before it was abandoned, though, the building had been a Christian school and a public school, among many other things.
