Deputy PM goes to Millennium Development Goals Summit

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has vowed to tell world leaders to "step up to the plate" and promises to increase aid to the developing world.

Nick Clegg, went to New York to represent the British government in the UN Talks on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The MDGs, agreed ten years ago by world leaders, are clear and measurable targets to improve the lives of millions of people around the globe.

Writing last week, Deputy Prime Minister said that with just five years to go until the end of 2015, the MDGs are "still woefully off track."

At the summit of the UK will push for a clear agenda setting a path towards achieving the 2015 target, and will emphasize its focus on women, girls and maternal health....
