Real Camera?

I own (and shoot) both a Nikon D200 (digital) and a Canon A-1 (film).

I have heard a lot of people lately saying that film cameras are "Real Cameras" or "True Cameras", implying that digital cameras are cheap,...

Whoever says that digital cameras are cheap, has to be out of their minds. In the film days, their were very few photographers who used cameras that cost as much as yours does. I remember the A1 was hot in the 80s and its cost was around 5 or 600 dollars, close to $1000.

Should I use a real camera instead of a camera phone?

I've got an excellent Sony c905 camera phone. But wondering whether I should get a real camera for better pictures.

Yes

Start-Up Lets You Add Real Camera Lenses to the iPhone

But what if the iPhone could use the same lenses that fancier cameras can? A week ago, photography website Photojojo debuted an iPhone mount for such lenses on its online store. For $249, you can modify the iPhone to add the Canon fish-eye, prime or ultra-telephoto lens, which are typically used with fancy “SLR” cameras.

As soon as word got out such a device existed, the tech blogosphere buzzed so much about it that Photojojo’s website briefly went down. This thoroughly surprised Amit Gupta, 31, president and founder of Photojojo, based in San Francisco. Gupta had expected to sell 20 or 30 mounts, but “low hundreds” of them sold out within two days.

We spoke with Gupta about the iPhone’s limitations (which this mount eliminates) and the evolution of Photojojo.

How did you come up with Photojojo? I started it five years ago. I had a company in the first Internet bubble and dropped out of school for that and raised a bunch of venture capital. When the dot-com bubble burst, I went through an excruciating process where I had to lay off half the company. It was a dark time. I went back to school and I finished. I ended up in New York City. … I had just gotten back in photography. I saw all these people talking all these photos and I saw people in my life wanting to customize it more — more DIY, more creativity in their lives.

Start-Up Lets You Add Real Camera Lenses to the iPhone - Digits - WSJ

For what it is, the iPhone camera is respectable.

The device touts a 4.5-inch 5-megapixel camera that can record HD video. Then you add the fact that it is always a camera in your pocket, and you begin to wonder why you never use anything else. Yet the iPhone, as it is, can not quite what a high-end professional camera can.

But what if the iPhone could use the same lenses that can amateur cameras? A week ago, the photography site Photojojo started mounting such lenses for iPhone on its online store. For $ 249, you can modify the iPhone to add the Canon fish-eye, or the first ultra-telephoto, which are typically used with fancy "reflex" cameras.
