Sketch comics “Kids in the Hall” had a biting, quirky sensibility, with a fervent but not-quite-mainstream following in the early 1990s while airing on HBO and CBS. The quintet has since gone on reunion tours over the years, most recently 2008, when they came to Atlanta at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre where they did all new material for the first time.

This year, two members Kevin McDonald and Scott Thompson decided to go out on their own in smaller comedy clubs and do stand-up. This is the first time the two have toured together in combo.

I spoke with Thompson for a half hour last week the day after their very first show in Irvine, Calif., part of a three-month stint.

“It went pretty well,” Thompson said by phone from California. “Our crowd did show up. That was good. There were no walkouts. A few went to the lobby but it appeared they came back.” (Apparently, he remembers doing a solo date a dozen years earlier at the venue and recalls “lots of walkouts.
