50 million flat panel TVs shipped in 2Q11

Flat panel TV shipments in second-quarter 2011 totaled 50 million units worldwide, representing an on-quarter increase of 3% and on-year increase of 12%, with LCD TVs taking up most of the shipments, a research showed.
Displaybank said that shipments of LCD TVs alone in second-quarter 2011 increased 13% year-on-year due to falling prices. The large-scale price reduction of LCD TVs also impacted the plasma TV market, leading to a decline of 3% in shipments. Sales recession in North America and Europe also contributed to the decline.
Displaybank said that TV suppliers worldwide have lowered their shipment goals, and that the global outlook of LCD TV shipments has been adjusted to 200 million units in 2011, still an 11% increase compared with 2010.
